    Das Entfernen oder Verändern der Zeichen ist ein Vergehen und wird nach § 42002 mit Geldstrafe bis 1.000 US-Dollar oder Haft bis zu sechs Monaten im County Jail bestraft, oder mit beidem. Die Tat mit Verletzungsabsicht nach Absatz b ist ein Verbrechen; ein Strafmaß dafür nennt der Paragraph nicht. Dazu kommt bei Umweltschäden die zivilrechtliche Haftung für Wiederherstellung und Reparatur.
